      I interviewed at Mastery Schools

      Interview

The turnaround was quick, which was great. After completing the online application, which took quite a while, I heard back the next day about scheduling a "screening interview." The 20 minute screening interview used canned questions, but the interviewer was super nice so it didn't feel impersonal. Two days later, I was asked to schedule a 20 minute interview with the head of recruitment for Mastery. For the second interview itself, I got a call over 10 minutes late, and after a precursory apology, we had our interview. I was quickly asked a series of questions in five minutes, which seemed enough time for the interviewer (who seemed bored with the process) to determine that my extensive expertise in one area made me a poor fit for the position. I honestly felt like she didn't really listen to what I had said (nor that she fully considered the systems and strategies I was referencing and their broader implications for curriculum and instruction) and had made her mind up ahead of time. It left a sour taste in my mouth. So, while I later got a standardized email asking me to apply as a teacher instead, I will not do so.
