Met with VP and Director separately. Very personable and easy to speak with. Told them about background and responded to their questions. Asked a few questions of my own. Got offer two days later. The whole process took about a week.
I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Mattel in Sep 2019
Interview
I had an initial call with a recruiter for another position. The salary wasn’t inline with my expectations so we ended the call however she contacted me a week or two later with something that might be a better fit.
From there I had a phone call with the hiring manager and an on-site which lasted about an hour and a half and consisted with meeting her, her manager, and that manager’s director. The process overall was fine. The recruiter was especially communicative and seemed invested in helping me succeed.
I had some concerns with the interview style of the hiring manager’s direct supervisor. Some of the questions seemed antiquated for lack of a better word, with a big focus on how I would act in hypothetical scenarios (e.g tell me what you would do if a senior executive says this to you). Moreover this particular interview felt less like a genuine assessment of fit for the role and more of an test to see if I would be stumped by a question.
As I mentioned, this was an outlier and my other conversations went normally. I’m of the opinion that this role would be better suited for both a sort of case interview and/or an actual skill test. The role relied heavily on hard skills and this is the only company that never actually assessed them with a timed assessment, and it was my final interview. I frankly hadn’t interviewed for a technical role with such a strong emphasis on behavioral questions. I suspect if I had better answers I may have received an offer, but my feedback wasn’t specific enough to know for sure.
