I applied for the Consumer Products Coordinator role at Mattel Malaysia under the Global Franchise Product Development / Creative team. While I was initially excited about the opportunity and aligned well with the role, the overall recruitment process was extremely disappointing and unnecessarily prolonged.
What went well:
The role was interesting, and I appreciated the opportunity to speak with both local and global teams.
The interviews were professionally conducted, and I received positive feedback during the conversations.
What was frustrating:
The entire process stretched over 2 months (3 months if including the start of application), with weeks of silence after each stage. This left me in a constant state of uncertainty, unable to plan or commit to other opportunities.
There was no transparency or timeline given about next steps, even after I followed up multiple times (Every week).
I never received a formal outcome — not even a rejection — despite investing time and effort into the process.
During the first Interview, the hiring manager was not on time. I had to wait 15 minutes.
As a candidate, I believe basic communication and closure are a minimum standard, especially from a globally recognized brand. A more structured and respectful process would have made a huge difference.
