It took several weeks, maybe more than a month, for me to get an initial phone screen after I submitted my application. There was no salary range posted, and when I asked for a ballpark, I was told that they decide on a case-by-case basis. I provided my expected salary and they couldn't even tell me whether it was possible or not because it "depends on a number of factors." Despite this red flag, I completed the three required writing assignments using the CDC's plain language guidelines. I have written for health plans before and this is a best practice, but I didn't have the opportunity to explain my approach or provide context because I didn't get an interview with the hiring manager. A complete waste of my time that left a really bad taste in my mouth.
