      General Manager Interview

      Feb 1, 2014
      Anonymous employee
      Rancho Cucamonga, CA
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Michaels (Rancho Cucamonga, CA) in Oct 2011

      Interview

Interviewed with the recruiter who was fantastic. I then interviewed with a District Manager, a Store Manager, the Zone Human Resource manager, then finally the Zone Manager. These were all truly great people with the Zone manager being one of the best interviews I have had at that level.

      Question 1

I was offered a position that was lower than that which I interviewed for. I was surprised and wanted to talk to my wife about it. The job I had at the time was a truly awful commute (4 - 5 hours daily). I decided that I would take the job and I gave notice to my old job. Two days later I was told that Michaels no longer had a position available. I explained that I had already gave notice. When I contacted the Zone Manager, she was fantastic indicating that she would make sure that I was not left out in the cold. They WOULD find a place for me and, indeed, they did.

      General Manager Interview

      Oct 28, 2020
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience

      Application

The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Michaels

      Interview

Very lengthy process with no feedback throughout. Had to meet with 4 people. Recruiter who basically spoke the entire time and didn’t really ask me questions which was weird. Then I spoke with the DM and she was rushed and asked me 2 questions. 10 minutes and she had made a decision. Then I was asked to do a store tour which was great meeting with someone who knows what they are actually talking about. Then met with HR. Short and sweet again. Feel like I was passed on based on me questioning them on some labour law related questions. The pay was quite low For the position and the managers are required to work no less then 45 hours per week. Must work 6 days a week for 6 weeks leading to Christmas. For a company that preaches work life balance it didn’t appear that way to me.
