      Senior BI Consultant Interview

      Mar 18, 2012
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 8 weeks. I interviewed at MicroStrategy in Mar 2011

      Interview

Recruiter calls and we have a brief chat about my CV. Asks what salary I was on and advised that they are keen for me to have an interview but advised I should ask for a set amount during the interview process else I won't make it through if I ask for more. The way it was put to me was a little uncomfortable particularly as i was yet to fully know what the role involved but went through the motion. Recruiter scheduled a phone interview with one of their Snr BI tech consultants.. 1st Phone interview: Received call and the consultant grilled me on a few basic technical scenarios regarding SQL and data manipulation etc and client interaction. Invited to face to face interview x3: 1st face to face interview (Professional Services manager): Answered questions on data warehousing Kim vs In etc also on dealing with clients etc.. Interview was very technical orientated 1st face to face interview (Professional Services Director): Brief chat on CV then into the IQ type quiz. Had to do with a car journey and how long it would take to get to the end of the journey if it had already travel to a certain point etc (Look around here and you should see the question). Answered question but was told explanation was fuzzy etc don't believe I established good raport with this interviewer. 1st face to face interview (HR): General chat on CV and soft skills e.g. tell me a time I dealt with difficult customer, why MSTR, my salary details etc.. Few weeks later feed back comes through and they really like me and they like to bring me in for another interview (turns out that my IQ face to face interview above did not get glowing remarks). Invited to 2nd face to face interview x3: 2nd face to face interview(another Professional Services Manager (was told this was one of their top dogs i.e. knew his stuff)) More detailed technical questions on SQL, performance optimisation and DW 2nd face to face interview (another Professional Services Manager) Similar questions as above but not as detailed. 2nd face to face interview (HR): General chat on the process and why I was called for another interview apparently the Director places a high importance on the IQ test but all the other Interviewers liked me and felt I would thrive here as technical was on par with what they wanted. Was advised would here from them ASAP. ASAP turns out to be a further 3 weeks or thereabout in which I was advised that there has been a change in their recruitment activity for the position etc however they really like me and would like me to come in for another interview... Invited for another interview x1 3rd face to face interview(Another Professional Services Manager): General chat on my background. Interviewer did not have my CV on hand neither did they know that I had been through the previous interview rounds. Was given a hypothetical BI scenario to deal with. Scenario had to do with requirements gathering for some metrics that needed to be reported on . I asked questions to get an idea on the scenario department products to be reported on etc and then started specifying what I would do from a DW sourcing of data to the reporting of the metrics. Some questions to and fro to refine requirements and also got some guidance from interviewer when the interest was high i.e. this was hints to drill further on this particular elicitation of the requirements for the scenario.. Interview told me I was suited for the role although as my DW skills was more superior to my FE skills but as they send all new recruits that have not got MSTR exp to their training center this was ok etc. Was told again ASAP turnaround regarding feedback. Not heard from them ever and at that juncture had lost interest in the role completel so did not bother chasing up. Felt it was more akeen to a body shopping outfit in that you worked typically on your own on client site wherever rather than in teams consulting etc.. Could not get an idea on progression and reward in terms of salary was so guarded it was a bit bizzare as they had all info regarding pay from my end. Overall glad I was interviewed as I was curious on what it would be like working for them but would have turned it down had I got an offer.
