I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Microsoft (Redmond, WA) in Jun 2024
Interview
First very friendly interview with hiring manager. Team interview with 4 members about 45min each.
First team member was new to the team and ran down a list of standard personality questions, asked technical questions not related to the role.
Second team member again asked standard personality questions and some technical questions.
Third team member was very checked out, had not read resume at all. Repeatedly asked the same question, "Why do you want to be a project manager" even after the question was answered. Ended after about 10min of 45min scheduled.
Fourth member was old employee of current company, Stated that the group had been reorganized and just finishing the process as a courtesy. Did not ask any role questions, and just talked about company and experiences.
The interview process consisted of four progressively structured rounds, each designed to assess a different dimension of my product thinking, system architecture capabilities, and execution maturity. The rounds were intentionally sequenced to move from high-level problem framing to detailed solution design and delivery planning.
