      DLP Security Engineer Interview

      Dec 6, 2024
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      London, England
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Millennium (London, England) in Jan 2024

      Interview

A few months ago, I interviewed with Milenium for a DLP-related role. While I am currently excelling in a similar position and consistently exceeding expectations at my company, I felt the interview process did not adequately assess my skills or align with the requirements of the role. The interview was conducted by a Cloud Engineer who openly mentioned having limited experience with DLP, which raised concerns about the depth and relevance of the technical evaluation. Additionally, there were significant technical issues during the call, such as poor audio and video quality, as the interviewer was abroad at the time. These challenges affected the flow of the conversation and possibly the clarity of communication. Some of the questions were on topics like development, Active Directory, and general IT concepts. However, none of the questions focused on the core technologies or responsibilities associated with the DLP role for which I was applying. This was surprising, considering my extensive experience with both macOS and Windows platforms. The interviewer was also unable to let me know base Notably, I have consistently gone beyond the expectations of my current role by creating innovative solutions and developing transferable skills. Despite this, I felt these achievements were not fully explored, and the interviewer appeared to make assumptions about my capabilities without seeking clarification. For example, I have mentioned of my proven ability to implement advanced compliance and self-healing tools, particularly on macOS through tools like Jamf - The interviewer assumed that I was only capable of doing such on macOS. Which was not what I said. Overall, I came away with the impression that the process was not structured to effectively identify a suitable candidate for the role. While I cannot speak to the motivations behind this, it seemed the interviewer might have had competing priorities or lacked the focus necessary to fairly assess candidates, this interview was 1-2-1 and unfortunately I believe this contributed to an unfair assessment of a candidate. For the next 2 months I kept getting messages from recruiters looking for a DLP engineer for Millenium, always with a slightly different JD
