A month long process. 3 step interview. Fairly straight to the point. Applied online and about a business day later, I get an email from one of their recruiters talking about next steps and 8 logistical questions for me to answer. First interview was with their Director of Engineering. Really laid back and smart guy. I had an amazing time speaking with him. He pretty much talked about the company and what they're looking for to be filling in this role. Mainly an introductory call and time to ask any important questions you have. He was very vocal about really liking the questions I had asked so it was nice having a meaningful exchange with him. 3 days later the recruiter get backs to me about next steps which is a take home challenge. I was invited to their private GitHub repo which was aptly titled `${myName}-challenge` (to all my JavaScript friends lol), so it was nice seeing a company add that extra step of making the process seem personable. The task was to create a sign-up form page that looked like the provided Figma mock up. It was very straightforward and the main things that they were looking for were both the desktop and mobile design, cross-browser compatibility, and the form validation logic. I was given a week to complete it and it was a fair challenge. After a week and a half after my take home was submitted, I had my second interview which was with one of their Senior Frontend. This was the technical portion of the interview. The first 30 minutes were him asking me classic interview questions in regards to Frontend Engineering that all ranged from CSS to JavaScript to React. Nothing out of the ordinary, the only hard question that I remember having difficulty with was about memoization. The next 30 minutes was mainly just for me to talk about my take home project, explaining my choices and thought process. It was nothing too crazy, he was really chill to talk to. Told me that the next steps would be the final step which were pretty much bar raisers for cultural fit. The only thing that I was disappointed about was the fact that he had never ran my project locally. It seemed like he hadn't even glanced my code before the interview at all actually. He told me that he would look at my code more so I followed up asking for feedback if he had any and I haven't received a reply since. A week goes by so I email the recruiter asking for a follow up and she promptly thanks me for checking in and lets me know that I'll find out by early next week due to the fact that the engineering team is busy. Next week came and I get an update from the recruiter saying that I won't be going to the next and final step. I was told that I was given no negative feedback from them but that the team went forward with a candidate whose "background is more aligned with their current needs" and that this was "not an easy decision for them". The only thing I'm truly disappointed about the process was being left in limbo after my technical round. In fact, the real reason for that happening is clearly because they had their first choice going through the final interviews/offer confirmation while the team kept me in hiring limbo to keep me "warm" just in case their first choice didn't pan out.
