The recruitment process for the entry-level research assistant role was prolonged, spanning 3-4 weeks and concluding with an extensive five-hour one-on-one with a one-hour presentation session. The actual job responsibilities and expectations communicated during the interview process were inconsistent with the initial job description. It appeared that the employer was seeking to fill a more advanced position, such as a postdoctoral research fellow or lab manager while offering a research assistant's salary. The role entailed tasks typically associated with higher-level positions, including revising papers for publication, repeating multiple experiments, and managing administrative duties for a postdoc transitioning to a principal investigator role. Additionally, the position required initiating new exploratory experiments using a specialized lab technique without guidance, as well as overseeing a significant project for another postdoc. I was hesitant given the responsibilities but at multiple time points, I was confirmed that the role seemed suitable for my experience. It was an extensive waste of time and effort and will let everyone else.
