      Application

I interviewed at NOW CFO (Portland, OR)

      Interview

The process was pretty informal. I was looking for a temp to perm position and sent in my resume. Everything was handled very professionally. I met with a hiring rep to screen me as a potential candidate. Then, when a match was found I was sent out to the location to meet with the client. Pretty standard stuff, but I did appreciate their responsiveness.

      Question 1

The screening questions were pretty standard fare. As this is a placement agency, they wanted to know where I fit.

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at NOW CFO

      Interview

Besides for the interviewer acting inappropriately with language, I think ending it on the high note by saying: A. They don’t have any current openings but are just “gearing up” for their next contract. So I’m hired, but not hired. B. Telling me that all employees also function as sales staff and must also bring in clients or repeat business (I.e sell services to existing customers that they don’t actually need, which is best case a conflict of interest and gets my CPA license pulled and worst case, fraud.) They added that even if you do great work, if you don’t bring new people or work in, you’re let go. Kind of sealed it for me. No thanks. Also, I don’t feel like traveling a 100 miles away a day on my own dime. That’s not something “built into the salary”. I’m sure you’re billing the client for travel, you don’t get to just keep it. And one last thing, I made a few calls and 3 of the companies advertised on their website as clients have never heard of them. Did you really think nobody would check?

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Can you juggle different projects and still stay on task? Can you travel?

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback about your interview experience with our company. We value transparency and honesty, so we appreciate hearing your concerns. However, we would like to address some misconceptions and provide clarification regarding the points you’ve raised in your review. Firstly, we apologize if there was any inappropriate language used during your interview. We take professionalism seriously, and we strive to create a respectful and inclusive environment for all candidates. Regarding your comment about our current openings, we understand the frustration that can arise in the event there are no immediate positions available. As a dynamic organization, our hiring needs can vary based on project timelines and client requirements. While we may not have immediate openings, we are actively preparing for future engagements, and we encourage candidates to stay in touch for potential opportunities down the line. We would like to clarify your statement about consultants functioning as sales staff. At NOW CFO, we have a dedicated sales team of over 60 individuals nationwide who are responsible for bringing in new business and maintaining client relationships. Our consultants are not required to engage in sales activities, allowing them to focus on delivering exceptional work for our clients. We find that our clients often ask for direction related to their financial efficiency and visibility and offering additional “value added” services is something that we provide. We would never terminate a consultant for an inability to sell our services. You mentioned concerns about travel expenses. We want to clarify that any travel time required for client engagements that is billable is indeed reimbursed and expensed as per our policies. We understand that traveling long distances can be burdensome, and we strive to ensure our consultants are fairly compensated for their time and expenses. Your also mentioned that there are companies advertised on our website that you have called and been told that they have no knowledge of us. We can assure you that we take great care in accurately representing our client portfolio. However, it is possible that the individuals you spoke with were not aware of our specific engagements, as companies often have multiple divisions, offices or departments that may not be in direct communication. Our engagements often involve decisions being made with executive level individuals such as the CFO or CEO. Other employees such as someone who answered the phone directly may not be aware of those arrangements. If you have any concerns or doubts about our client relationships, we would be more than happy to provide further information or clarify any misunderstandings, NDA allowable of course. We appreciate your feedback as it helps us identify areas for improvement. We always strive to communicate our company values more effectively. If you have any further questions or would like to discuss your concerns in more detail, please feel free to reach out to our HR department directly. We are committed to maintaining open lines of communication and addressing any issues raised by candidates or employees. Thank you again for sharing your thoughts, and we wish you the best of luck in your job search.
