I had an intro round with Namecheap. After, HR told me that I will receive a technical home task. When I asked her, for how many hours is that assessment ? She told it's something like 3h.
After receiving and checking the technical task , it looked like not 3h, but a week minimum. Because, based on the task description I have to build a webshop prototype, with products on the front page fetched via their api, filtering, pagination, search, the pop-up which shows the selected items and the checkout page. This has to be done with NextJS and React. I did accept the challenge because the company looked interesting for me only based on my feelings and I wanted to try-out. At that time I have decided not write anything back to HR regarding her strange time calculation of the task. Ok, happens.
Well, I spent exactly 5 full working days, did mostly everything and in the end they have declined it. I had a feeling that they wanted me to build an ideal and full example of the shop or find someone who is ideal at everything :) They even did not provide any design or something, just pure example of a mockup of what to build.
This example proves again, that it's a waste on time for both sides. This way of interview just doesn't work, I would never sign my self again to build something for free and spend my time.
Dear developers who will apply or will apply to other places, I encourage you to stop doing those coding challenges. Unless the company pays you for it! Please, respect your self and your personal time.
Nothing personal Namecheap, just bad experience I had.
