I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at New Relic (San Francisco, CA) in Jun 2016
Interview
Interview with New Relic is the worst in all of my job search history in my life. It is surprising how such a popular company in industry is so highly unethical and careless about other people's time.
Chronologically the whole process was look like this:
I applied via recruiter and was invited to a screening interview at recruiter's office on Monday.
Next day after the interview (Tuesday), recruiter told me that they want to invite me to an on-site interview on Friday.
On Wednesday morning I received take home project and I had 2 days (till Thursday evening) to finish the project and upload it to my github account.
The same day I was asked by the recruiter if we can reschedule our on-site interview to Monday morning next week. Despite that one month ago I already planned behind the wheel driving test on Monday morning, I decided that interview is more important and rescheduled my driving test for the next available day, which is 5 weeks later. I didn't get any updates on Friday and the last time I talked with recruiter on Friday, everything was confirmed regarding the interview on Monday.
Interview day. 30 minutes prior to interview I got a call from recruiter regarding the location of the office and at that point everything was ok.
10.30am - I am in the office of New Relic. Registered, got my badge and was waiting in the reception for the person who should interview me. Suddenly call from a recruiter and he tells me that there is something wrong with my take home project and quality of code and they don't want to waste my time and decided not to interview me. Really? I mean, do you really check it 1 minute prior to interview? When I am in your office? When I did a 1.5 hour commute to get there?
It is not about reject and I am not resentful. Maybe I am the worth candidate for them and I did the project in a most disgusting way in the human being history. But you can tell me about that at least the day upfront. Nobody from the company even bothered to come to the reception and tell me what happened, they preferred tell my recruiter to call me. I just feel cheated because I wasted 1 week of my time preparing for the interview reading the company blog, testing NR products, rescheduled my exam which I was waiting for almost 1 month and now have to wait for another month. I don't have enough words to say about how much angry I was because of the whole situation.
Don't waster your time with them. They don't value it.
The interview process includes application screening, recruiter call, technical or role-specific assessment, panel interviews, culture-fit discussion, reference checks, and final offer, ensuring candidates are evaluated fairly and thoroughly before hiring.
I applied online. I interviewed at New Relic (Portland, OR) in Jun 2026
Interview
I had a pretty unprofessional experience interviewing for the Software Engineer I role in Portland, OR.
After my initial recruiter call, it took nearly two weeks for the hiring manager to schedule the interview. During the interview, the hiring manager appeared disengaged and showed very little interest throughout the conversation.
Following the manager interview, I didn't receive any updates for about two weeks despite following the process. Eventually, the recruiter responded, saying, *"We are fortunate to have narrowed our search and will hold on moving candidates forward at this time,"* and I later received the formal rejection email.
Overall, the hiring process lasted 37 days. The lengthy delays, lack of communication, and overall candidate experience made the process feel unprofessional.
