      User Experience/UI Writer Interview

      Sep 6, 2018

      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at New Relic (Portland, OR) in Jun 2018

      Interview

New Relic followed a pretty standard setup consisting of an initial phone screen with HR (30 minutes), a 1:1 interview with the hiring manager (30 minutes), and then a panel interview with key members of the affected teams (7 hours over a full day visit). The company pulled out all the stops to ensure I felt at home and relaxed. They offered drinks of all kinds, put me in a private meeting room to receive my interviewers one at a time, took me out to lunch for a casual chat, and offered plenty of breaks. In short, they gave me a preview of how New Relic respects and cares for its team members. Everyone I met at the company was happy, helpful, and passionate about their work. They asked good questions that probed my personality more than my work history specifics, which told me they care more about the right people than the right entries on resumes. For all these reasons, I ended up taking the job when they offered it.
