Seriously refreshing interview experience in the product org. It was 9-4, with a few technical exercises, but it flew by. Almost every interview had 2 people, questions were thoughtful, people were prepared, and everyone I spoke with was fun, honest and authentic. I felt like it was okay to talk the technical questions out and even learn in the interviews, it didn't feel like anyone was quietly judging. The technical questions were challenging but weren't tricky or ridiculous for the given job, they matched well with the role and experience level needed. It was a great signal to me that the company knows how to prioritize culture and inclusion, which is hard to find in tech.
The interview process includes application screening, recruiter call, technical or role-specific assessment, panel interviews, culture-fit discussion, reference checks, and final offer, ensuring candidates are evaluated fairly and thoroughly before hiring.
I applied online. I interviewed at New Relic (Portland, OR) in Jun 2026
Interview
I had a pretty unprofessional experience interviewing for the Software Engineer I role in Portland, OR.
After my initial recruiter call, it took nearly two weeks for the hiring manager to schedule the interview. During the interview, the hiring manager appeared disengaged and showed very little interest throughout the conversation.
Following the manager interview, I didn't receive any updates for about two weeks despite following the process. Eventually, the recruiter responded, saying, *"We are fortunate to have narrowed our search and will hold on moving candidates forward at this time,"* and I later received the formal rejection email.
Overall, the hiring process lasted 37 days. The lengthy delays, lack of communication, and overall candidate experience made the process feel unprofessional.
