WARNING! BEWARE!
The interview process began with the typical steps—a recruiter call, followed by 30-minute interviews with the hiring manager, a team member, and a stakeholder from another team. The questions were standard behavioral and a few technical ones. Everything seemed to be moving smoothly... until it didn’t.
I started my interviews in early December, fully understanding that things might be delayed due to the holidays. By mid-December, I had completed my final interview. During this time, I was also interviewing with another company and was completely transparent about it with the New Relic team.
I completed interviews for both companies around the same time and knew holiday delays were inevitable. I wasn’t expecting instant responses, but what followed was absolutely unacceptable. The recruiter kept giving vague updates, claiming decisions hadn't been made. When the New Year arrived, the recruiter promised updates at specific times and failed to follow through. I had to constantly chase for any sort of communication.
By the first week of January, I received an offer from the other company and promptly informed New Relic. The other company provided me a week to respond. Despite this, New Relic continued to stall. Finally, on a Friday, the hiring manager requested a final meeting. During the call, the manager assured me that they wanted to move forward, saying they would extend an offer, acknowledging the urgency due to my deadline with the other company.
At that point, I chose to wait for New Relic’s offer as the role was more fitting for my needs. I waited all day for a response. Nothing came. By Monday, I received a voicemail from the recruiter stating they had offered the position to someone else. No apology or explanation, just a congratulations on my other offer.
I immediately asked for a call back, hoping to get feedback from the hiring manager, especially after our last conversation. The recruiter said she’d gather more information, but here I am, three months later, still waiting for any kind of follow-up.
It’s clear I wasn’t their first choice. I understand the nature of business, but the level of disrespect and unprofessionalism I’ve encountered is staggering. To be strung along for weeks, only to be discarded without any proper closure or communication, is inexcusable. I can only hope that others don’t have to endure the same experience with New Relic.
