      New York Life Agent Interview

      Feb 21, 2014
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Los Angeles, CA
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through college or university. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at New York Life (Los Angeles, CA) in Mar 2013

      Interview

Attended an industry highlight panel though my schools OCR. Panel was just on insurance and each company was selling it's key points. Rather boring but I networked with the New York representative and found him very interesting. I contacted him later via email to thank him for his time and he invited me in for an interview. Strictly getting to know you, No real behavioral situations. Just a chat. Accepted the offer and interned over the summer. Terrible experience though. Maybe life insurance just isn't for me.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

When can you start. Don't get suckered into "immediately." Your decision can be wrong if rushed like mine was.

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at New York Life in Mar 2018

      Interview

Its a presentation because its a multi-level-marketing scheme. Not a real interview, so run. Don't discount the negative reviews, especially the ones highlighting the MLM scheme this company practices.

      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at New York Life (Glendale, CA) in Aug 2017

      Interview

There are a series of interviews an re-interviews. Once selected, there is a month of classes. These classes are not optional. You must also take an online test and pass a state exam. Then, there is one month of full-time classes. It is impossible to have a second job. The training is great, but it is 100% commission. You are not paid for any of your time or training.
