      Assignment Editor Interview

      Sep 8, 2022
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      New York, NY
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Newsweek (New York, NY) in Aug 2022

      Interview

I was contacted for an Assignment Editor role by a recruiter who clearly didn’t know what a person in that capacity did. She kept asking questions, and after I’d answer, she’d say “thank you for that.” No engagement and no follow-up. I was then contacted to take a three-hour test, despite having 20 years experience and providing my portfolio. I should have run at this point, but I kept going out of morbid curiosity. I was then contacted to discuss salary. Finally, I was told I had “one final interview,” and was thrown to two of the nastiest people I had ever met in my life who cut down all of my accomplishments and made me feel like I was being bullied by girls in high school. The following day I received a form rejection, thanking me for my contributions. There’s a reason there are so many horrible reviews here. Don’t waste your time!

Tell me how you handle “green” writers. (That should be a clue to run)!
