      Software Development Engineer Interview

      Jul 18, 2016
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Nordstrom in Jul 2016

      Interview

A recruiter contacted me through linkedin and asked if I had a second to chat to discuss an opportunity with the company. I always like to see what companies have to offer so I took her up on the offer to chat. We set a time and went from there. She asked me typical recruiter questions as well as outlined the next steps which were a Hiring Manager call followed by and offsite in LA. A couple weeks later I chatted with the hiring manager for about 45 minutes about the job and my experiences. We has an awesome conversation about what I had done with my current job as well as what I could bring to the table. We both got excited for the potential here. After that interview the recruiter reached out to me saying that I would have one more interview followed by the offsite. I asked why the process got changed and she simply asked we want to be sure before flying you out. I then agreed to the 2nd interview and we got it set up. This interview was set with the Architect of the team and a Sr QA Member. The QA member ended up not showing up and it was just a one on one interview with the Architect. This was the most disorganized interview I have ever been a part of. The interviewer simply repeated all the questions that the Manager had already given me and then asked me some .net questions that really don't make a difference in hiring in such a role. After this interview there was silence. No emails and no calls from the recruiter (At this point the recruiter went from one person to another. They clearly love organization at this company). I reached out to the second recruiter and after a couple days she responded saying, "Since you are not local to LA, we’d like to set up a skype interview with you prior to having you come out the office. Can you please let me know what availability you have to do that next week? Should take about an hour to an hour and a half." I was clearly pretty upset because they had changed the process once more on me. I have a full time job and cant just take hours and hours out of my day attending to unplanned interviews. I explained this to the Head recruiter in an email and she sent me the following response, "I think we are unfortunately going to move forward with other candidates at this point. Ambiguity and constant change are a part of our DNA here, and it’s important in this role that you’re able to “roll with the punches” given our current projects and environment." They clearly have a broken process. Do not waste your time interviewing for a company that clearly doesn't care about its candidates and has no respect for there time.
