I applied through college or university. I interviewed at Nutanix in Aug 2023
Interview
The interview process was part of an on-campus recruitment drive and consisted of multiple rounds conducted in a single day.
It began with a shortlisting based on resumes and academic performance, followed by an online coding test. The test included 2–3 coding questions of medium to hard difficulty, primarily based on data structures and algorithms.
After clearing the test, selected candidates went through two rounds of technical interviews. In one of the rounds, I was asked to debug a given Leetcode problem (Reorder List), where I had to explain my approach and fix logical issues in the code.
The other round involved a system design discussion (basic level) where I was asked to design a simple scalable system (like a file storage or URL shortener). They also asked about OOP concepts, OS basics, and concurrency.
The final round was a brief HR/behavioral round, focused more on my interest in the company, past project work, and communication skills.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
They have asked this question to debug:
https://leetcode.com/problems/reorder-list/
Also asked about system design – particularly how to design a scalable file storage system, and they dug deeper into consistency models, replication strategies, and how to handle large file uploads.
In the coding round, apart from the debugging problem, they also gave a couple of medium-hard Leetcode-style problems involving trees and concurrency control. One was about implementing a lockable binary tree, and the other involved multi-threaded synchronization, like readers-writers problem or ensuring thread-safe access to a shared resource.
Behavioral round had the usual "tell me about a challenge" and "how do you prioritize tasks" type of questions. They seemed to focus more on problem-solving approach, code clarity, and how you think about edge cases.
Overall, the interviewers were professional and helpful, and gave hints when needed. The process felt fair and focused on real-world problem-solving rather than obscure puzzles.
Interview was pretty straightforward and direct. I had an online assesement, and then there is a recruiter screen and three rounds of onsite technical interview. The recruiter screen was just about getting to know yours goals and interest
They sent me an email saying I'm "part of the very first group of candidates being considered for our brand‑new Vancouver office". I sent two follow-ups and never received a response. Three weeks later, they sent me a rejection email without even giving me that initial interview they said they would.
This is the first round and it was a coding round. They asked two questions in hacker rank and an interviewer was there. Interviewer asked about the approach initially and they also gave hints when stuck.
