With a heavy heart, I must express the unfortunate experience I had with OCLC regarding the Product Manager position interview. Initially, I underwent a 45-minute first-round phone screening with the recruiter, where I confidently answered questions about my background, projects, and experiences using the STAR methodology. The interview went smoothly, and I anticipated moving to the next round. Soon after, I received a call scheduling a second-round interview directly with the hiring manager for the following week. Despite being well-prepared and ready 15 minutes prior to the interview, the HR department informed me that the hiring manager was unwell and had to reschedule for the following week. This rescheduling continued for the next 2-3 weeks. It is now over a month and a half, and despite my attempts to reach out via email, calls, and voicemails to HR, I was not informed about the status of the role nor the second round was conducted.
Post that, I got an interview for the second round almost towards the end of April, with the hiring manager, who was convinced before the interview that she did not want to hire me. Towards May end I got a reject. I applied on February 16 and the process continued till May end. With an auto-reject email, they did not even have the courtesy to call or send a genuine email and tell me the status of the role for pain they put me through.
While I understand unforeseen circumstances can arise, the lack of communication creates uncertainty for candidates, especially in today's competitive and volatile job market. Transparency throughout the interview process allows candidates to make informed decisions about their job search.
Such disregard for communication not only affects an individual's emotional well-being in today's competitive job market of 2024 but also erodes trust in the recruitment process, leaving candidates feeling undervalued by potential employers.
I remain interested in the opportunity at OCLC and this position and would appreciate an update on the status of the position whenever possible.
