I applied online and received an email from the hiring manager requesting a phone interview. The phone interview was short and the hiring manager described the role, which was unclear to me. There was some php programming involved but there was also something to do with making and editing training videos for using their equipment. He didn't ask any technical questions and said that when deciding on hiring someone he goes with his gut feeling. He must have been satisfied because he invited me for an in-person interview the following week. When I arrived, I checked in at the front desk and was greeted by the hiring manager shortly afterwards. He was friendly and energetic. He first took me on a tour of their facility and showed me their mail sorting machines. He was excited about them and told me that they want to hire someone who is excited about them too. I find it difficult to get excited about mail sorting machines, but I did my best to try to seem excited. During the tour he emphasized the longevity of the company and high employee retention. After the tour, the hiring manager brought me to his office and showed me their system and some of the software they use. I still didn't have a clear picture of what the job responsibilities were and he didn't ask me one technical question which I thought was very strange. The hiring manager mentioned that the salaries aren't that high but kept emphasizing their benefits instead. I also got to meet another employee whom I didn't have a good feeling about. However, the hiring manager seemed to like me and at the end of the interview they both walked me out. He seemed like a nice man, but I just had an uneasy feeling at the end of the interview. I received an email about two weeks later telling me they went with another candidate, which was a relief for me as I didn't think it was a good fit.
