      Senior Manager Interview

      Nov 9, 2013
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Signal Hill, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Office Depot (Signal Hill, CA) in Nov 2013

      Interview

Applied for position online. Went through automated assessment which includes a few vague situational questions that left me unsure of what they were looking for. Received a call a couple weeks later from HR. The woman was screening for applicants that she felt were qualified to move on to a live interview. I was asked to come in after she confirmed that my profile fit the position. (To be honest, she seemed to be a bit of an 'air head'). Next interview was with someone from HR. Meeting was brief. Then met with an assistant general manager. He was well-rehearsed with canned questions regarding "what would you do if...?" and "when you made a mistake how did you fix it?" He didn't appear to be listening to my answers. In fact, most of the time I had to sit and listen to him brag about how successful he was and, basically, 'this place couldn't run without me' kind of attitude. I thought, "if this is the person I'm going to be reporting to, maybe I should just keep looking." The ego was too much. It's been a few weeks and I haven't heard back. And, in reality, I hope I don't.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

If you review the basic behavioral questions that most companies ask and have an experience to share you will be way ahead of the person that interviewed me. But be prepared to listen to a lot of egotistical bragging. It's unreal.

Two recruiter interviews, due to recruiter turnover. One face to face with a four-person panel. Rapid-fire style, about an hour long. Very typical questions, based on role and prior experience. Nothing out of left-field.

      Senior Manager Interview

      Jan 23, 2018
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Miami, FL
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Office Depot (Miami, FL) in Jan 2018

      Interview

Annoying phone interview with the recruiter. As he was asking questions, he was banging away on his key board typing which made it extremely hard to concentrate. I could tell he didn't really want to be on the call and seemed very stressed. The entire call turned me off from wanting to be employed by the company. I truly believe the first interactions with an employee of the company can give you a good sense of the overall environment and culture. The recruiter even emphasized how the hiring manager had no time to train someone, so one had to come in the door and hit the floor running and because the employee in the current role was leaving that Friday, it was critical they get someone fast. This came across as a lack of planning on their part. The entire call was very disappointing.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Was asked confusing questions regarding hard and soft skills, but the way the recruiter asked the questions, I wasn't 100% sure how the recruiter wanted me to answer. It was like decoding a riddle. Not sure he really understood the difference between hard and soft skills.
