      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Oregon Metro (Portland, OR) in Aug 2013

      Interview

The hiring analyst was consistently great. There was a well thought out process for each step. However it quickly became clear each time I interviewed (I interviewed for these jobs multiple times over the last 5 years) that the only people they would consider were temps who had worked seasonally. I only got an interview because of my military veteran status and the law requires it. They could not have actually been less interested. 2 of the interviewers were clearly bored and disinterested. On one occasion some of the interviewers discussed in front of me their disappointment about a temp/seasonal who failed to show up on time for the interviews. Clearly he was a favorite. I came with years of experience, the required license, the training and a military vets preference points. They have since hired 8 rangers and none are veterans. All were college kids who worked on average 5 years as seasonal temps at $10 an hour and no benefits. As a friend said when discussed how you can afford to work that cheap, "You can if you live with your parents". Too bad, they miss out on some great candidates.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

They throw a question at you to describe how to handle multiple crises at the same time to test your response, prioritizing, and how you handle these things as well as judgement, personal skills, I actually enjoyed it as its the type of situation where I thrive.
