      Product Designer Interview

      Jul 12, 2023
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Oshi Health in Jun 2023

      Interview

I applied for this job in mid May. I had my first interview with the People Operations Lead at the end of May. The phone screen went really fast (20 minutes or less) and they scheduled me for a follow-up during the call, which I thought was fantastic news! My second call was the first week of June with the Senior Product Designer who I had a very lovely time talking to. The third interview was at the end of June with the Senior Director of Product which went okay. I did move onto the next step in their process which was a take-home design challenge. I've been in design a few years and have heard the horror stories of uncompensated and laborious "design challenges" but this is the first time I was met with one. They state that it should take about 4-6 hours of work but in my opinion it would've taken days. They required market research, competitive analysis, journey mapping, style guide creation, several design iterations, and high fidelity wireframes or prototypes. After you did all this, you would present to a panel. If you got past that round, you would have a culture fit interview and then perhaps an offer. I did not complete the design challenge. I had already spent several hours interviewing with them and they had full access to my portfolio which includes 4 case studies. I was not comfortable committing hours and hours of my time for them to potentially say no anyway. I cannot tell you how disappointed I was to have to say no as this job seemed absolutely perfect for me. I wish they would reflect on these astronomical demands and respect their candidates more.

      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Oshi Health in Apr 2023

      Interview

The whole interview process took about 2 months. First, candidates meet with the people operations lead. Then, you move on to meet with the CTO. There is a take-home design challenge that will take at least 8 hours to complete. The design challenge requires documentation of complete market research, competitive analysis, user journey, iterations of design, the creation of a design library, and low-fidelity and high-fidelity prototypes. Lastly, you meet the greater team of a senior product designer, product team, and the CTO. Candidates are asked to present the design challenge to the greater team. The team members seemed to be not interested during the presentation. Before I finished asking questions at the end, the team cut the interview a few minutes short and ended the call. Wasn't a very friendly experience. Overall, the interview process was slow, confusing, and cold. The people operations lead contacted me via emails and video calls multiple times for about a month before the second round of interview to inform me that the team already would love to have me and that I was one of the most qualified candidates they've interviewed so far. There were verbal promises of creating a competitive package that would work for my qualification because they would love to have me on the team. After I was rejected, the team didn't reach out with a personal note or interview feedback. Just a standard email template to inform me of the rejection.
