      Finance Interview

      Jul 29, 2020
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Cary, NC
      Declined offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Oxford University Press (Cary, NC) in Jun 2018

      Interview

Contacted by in-house recruiter. Set up interview with direct report manager. Mostly standard interview questions with good back and forth. Also an Excel test given afterwards but pretty basic Excel stuff. Had second interview with some other team members that I might interact with. Had someone interview with me who worked in the warehouse who asked me questions which had nothing to do with my background in finance and would be unrealistic for anyone to answer not having knowledge of their operations. At that point became pessimistic towards role. Had one final interview with manager who worked overseas. Professional but at this final stage you would think they would try to not only be inquiring about your background but also selling you on why I should want to work for this company. Ultimately at no stage in the interview even the recruiter do anything to sell the company as being a place someone should want to work. In fact attitude amongst those I talked to was more along the lines of "I've been here a while, I'm used to everything and just don't feel like looking elsewhere." At end of process when which dragged on for two months received offer but at that point had accepted another offer. Not sure if I would have taken even if offered. In terms of what they asking me out of the interview with exception of warehouse incident nothing unusual or unreasonable. But from the other perspective of the candidate interview the company walked away very unimpressed. Throughout entire process amazed about how little passion everyone displayed about the company and wanting me to join. Some food for thought since it should not just about getting A job but rather the right job. This wasn't the right job for me based on what I saw.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

As mentioned mostly standard interview questions about background. Can't recall anything out of left field.
