I was really excited about this role. Exactly what I wanted to be writing about and really liked that it would be working on a new title that had yet to be launched.
Recruiter got in touch (heard some bad things about this individual prior but that is a different story) and set up an interview. Interview went pretty well. I think I clicked quite well with the hiring manager and I think I asked good questions.
They passed me on to the next round which was a writing test. I accepted the writing test. Before going any further I reached out to the internal HR person, the recruiter and the hiring manager about the salary. The recruiter initially told me 40k and then immediately followed up with an email saying it was actually between 30k-40k and the other two gave similar responses.
I said I did not want to proceed until they could provide something more specific. A lot of confusion continues and the hiring manager sends me the test where half the attachments were broken. I tried to tell the poor chap that I was not going any further due to the massive salary range issue but he kept emailing about the broken links and what not and other stuff.
I forgot about the whole thing till later that day when I was out running and the recruiter gave me a call to ask me why I never submitted the case study. I explained to him that such a wide salary range was not really fair. He went on a lot of tangents about how this was normal (he really didn't mind that I was running and talking - I thank him for not wasting more of my time) and at one point he dipped into Anti-Virus technology but I had stopped paying attention at this point so I can not tell you guys why.
Not really sure what say about this one in all honesty. Shame!
