I applied for the job on 1/13/22 and about a week and a half later I received an email from a recruiter asking to set up a day and time to phone screen. We ended up talking just a few days later. She was really nice and I felt like it was a good initial screen. She then booked me for a virtual interview with the hiring manager for 1/31/22. I was also sent a flyer about their benefits information, which seemed promising. So everything was moving right along at a pretty quick pace, which any candidate can appreciate. Having an HR background I know sometimes the interview process can take time so I was pleased with the turn around time.
The virtual interview, however, is where things stalled. The interview was booked for only 30 minutes, which seemed kind of short for a technical role and doesn't allow for many questions but I kept an open mind. I felt I interviewed well; I was positive and confident, able to explain my experience, and also communicated my desire to learn more and work with a team. It was coming close to the 30 minute mark and that's when the tone of the interview shifted. It had started as a casual (yet professional) conversation back and forth where we both were asking questions and I was feeling good about it, to then all of a sudden she didn't seem interested in listening to anything else I had to say. It was really bizarre. She may have just been trying to wrap up our conversation to catch the next meeting or interview, and I do like to be respectful of someone's time, but still. I could tell as I was talking at this point, nothing was really being paid attention to. She kind of cut me off and before I knew it she was saying I should know the status/next steps by the end of the week and then we said our goodbyes. Well, it is now 2/11/22 as I am writing this review and it's been CRICKETS. I also see the job still being posted online. So I am left to believe I am not in consideration but who knows because they never gave me any feedback or said anything more and it's been well over a week. I guess it's possible they could still reach out with next steps but I've been kept in the dark with no communications and I'm interviewing with other companies now, so I don't know that I'd move onto the next step with them even if they asked. It was just kind of a weird experience to be honest. I, like many other candidates out there, had to take time away from my job to interview so the least they could do is send an email if they aren't moving forward. The silence/ghosting is just honestly unprofessional. It's a bummer that I even feel the need to give this interview review, because I was so excited for the opportunity and it seemed like a great organization, but I hope someone will find this info useful.
I'm giving it a neutral experience and not completely negative because I do like how quickly it was progressing at first and the recruiter I initially talked with was kind. To anyone applying, it might depend what area or type of work you're going into, but I guess be prepared to possibly not hear back...
Edited to add: Ironically the same day I made this review I did finally end up getting a rejection email.
