I applied online, and the recruiter reached out and scheduled a phone screen, which, based on our conversation, went well. I understood I would be forwarded to the hiring manager for an interview.
Then, the wait started. I sent follow-up emails, but I haven't received a response. I connected on LinkedIn, but I haven't received a response. I found the hiring manager on LinkedIn and sent a message, but I haven't received a response. I continued to send notes expressing interest in working for them—no response.
I applied for another position (for which I am qualified) and sent the hiring manager a note on LinkedIn, but there was no response—not even an acknowledgment.
This level of "ghosting" is unprofessional and unacceptable. Then, watch the LinkedIn video of Senior Management (not leaders) speaking to the corporate culture—another example of the gap between Senior Management and the realities of what is happening in the trenches.
One of the managers I contacted has received a promotion (see Linkedin) and is curious - for what?
So, without contact or feedback - I am left to conclude one thing: Ageism. I am sure they will dress it up as something else, but I firmly believe the recruiter recognized my age during the phone screen, and age became a concern.
Too many companies now allow their DEI approach to overshadow a solid recruitment strategy.
