I thought by now I have seen the worst of the worst when it comes to bad, rude and unthoughtful employer behavior during the interview process. But no, not until I waded through the swamp waters of the Palo Alto Networks interview process, did I experience what lurks below.
I now know just how bad a company can treat a potential employee during the interview process.
Hands-down Palo Alto Networks was the most disturbing interview experiences I have ever encountered (so far). To be any worse, you would have to throw me in a tank full of sharks. Actually, I would prefer that over what I endured at Palo Alto Networks.
My interview was a 4-month nightmare that began in August 18 and concluded in December 18. During this time, I had 3 phone interviews and 3 on-site interviews. In total I met 17 people, some more than once. I even had a prep and coaching call with the hiring manager to prepare me for the final interview with their VP’s the next day.
After my final interview, I received a note that night saying the interview went great and would I fill out some paperwork while they put together my offer. So, I submit my background paperwork and my references (which were thoroughly briefed). I call, email and text. Where is my offer letter? They literally ghosted me for 10 days.
Can you imagine a company doing this? Completely cutting off contact, not producing an offer letter but then feel free to go ahead and contact my references and do a complete background check. Really?
Finally, someone from HR gets back to me to tell me that they are re-organizing their group into “speedboats” and so they can’t do any hiring until they figure out what a speedboat is and who should be in it.
I get that reorganizations, optimizing, or in case of PAWN “speedboats” happen. So, I understand and I can be patient.
But here is the very worst part, is a month later, the same exact job is advertised.
I contact HR and the hiring manager. I then see other positions in which I am more than qualified. I am turned down every time. I am stonewalled, lied to and rudely dismissed. I still have no idea what happened, or why they would treat me like that.
I am a bay area native and I used to have so much admiration and respect for Palo Alto Networks. It’s a different company now and I know it is not good .
One thing I would like to add, is that PAWN uses an online survey tool to poll/gather feedback from your references. For me and my references, it kinda rubbed us the wrong way. In any case, the whole experience left me feeling paranoid and violated. Think twice before putting yourself through their interview process. It's not the same PA Networks anymore...
P.S. If any anyone in HR bothers to respond, (I doubt it) I would be happy to share all the communications I received from your organization. It's shameful.
