      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Paylocity (Seattle, WA) in Jan 2021

      Interview

I interviewed with Paylocity over a period of 2 months. The people were nice and intelligent. The recruiter seemed new and not always helpful in answering my questions. Overall positive, but was not able to receive feedback on my skills or performance. Application: I submitted my application via a job post on LinkedIn and was contacted within 1 week. Interview #1 - Internal Recruiter: I spoke with a recruiter about the role, which was a mid-level role, tbd area in platform depending upon skill and fit. They have nearly 20 product designers, and many more UX designer - big team. They asked general questions about my experience, and decided to submit me to hiring manager. Follow up call for next interview: The recruiter called to schedule interview with hiring manager. I liked that they called me with updates instead of emails. When asked if this would be a informational call or portfolio review, I was told "could be either, just prepare for anything." Generally this was the recruiters vibe. They were nice, but not always helpful. Interview #2 - Hiring Manager : They were based out of Chicago like most of design team. Very nice, friendly person. Questions about my process, and a project that was didn't go as planned. I shared one project, which was well received. Final Interview: I was asked to be interviewed with the team over 2 days, 4 hours total. 1 with a project Manager, 1 with Head of UX, 1 with Head of UX Group, and another with 2 Product Designers at the same time to share a project. I was provided a choice of a design challenge (create a new projected based on a prompt) or simply show an existing project. I chose one I already had because why would I create something new? Everyone I spoke to was easy to speak with, kind, intelligent. The project I chose was very positively received by the people I shared it with. The PM I met with was nice, but hadnt interviewed a designer in a while, and the interview just seemed to appear on their calendar. They also asked to see a project, which I didn't expect for, but they were very impressed. Final Call with Recruiter: I received a phone call from the recruiter saying I did not get the role and that 'they did not receive a reason." When I pressed if I could get any feedback after nearly 6 total hours of speaking to the company, they just repeated that they didn't get any feedback. I was very frustrated by this to be honest.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

      - Tell me about your journey and where you are now - Tell me about a project you wished you had changed later or didnt go according to plan - Where do I see myself going and what areas do I want to learn more about? - What would I change about our design process. - General question about enterprise environment - How do I work through a project or use research? (I think?) - Something about managing or mentoring

      Interview

Initial call with a pleasant HR rep, and then didn’t hear anything back after that. Was told I’d hear back on next steps, but didn’t receive any communication even after following up. Frustrating experience and a waste of my time.

      Product Designer Interview

      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Paylocity (Los Angeles, CA) in Dec 2022

      Interview

Recruiter reached out to schedule an interview with me, but a minute later I received an auto-rejection email. I went ahead and scheduled the interview, but followed up to confirm my candidate status. No reply, and they never showed up to the scheduled interview either. Dumb experience. I understand wrong buttons can accidentally get clicked, but communicating that to the applicant is the only decent response.

      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Paylocity in May 2021

      Interview

      1. First initial call with a recruiter. 2. Call with product design lead 3. Series of 3 interviews. 1 with product design manager, 1 with product management, present your take-home design challenge or a project in your portfolio. You don't really know what you are going to be asked or what the agenda is really. They could have communicated what the goals were for each interview and what they were trying to get out of me. Otherwise pretty standard interview.
