I applied online. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at Petco (Memphis, TN) in Jan 2012
Interview
First they asked about Pets. What sort I had, what I would be willing to deal with, my favorite animals, my least favorite animals, what I had as a kid. They quizzed me on all the different animals in the store. Next they asked me about my prior jobs. What I liked about them, what I didn't like. they wanted to know what sort of managers I had and their styles. They asked me about the last store I'd be WOW'd at. They want to know about what I thought was a great customer service experience. They also wanted to know how I handled stressful situations. With either employees or with customers. Be prepared to give several examples of all the questions above. Then they asked why they should hire me. Don't be fooled by thinking this is an easy question! Also they LOVED that I came prepared with questions about the company. Write a list!
Interview was simple, process did not take too long. Questioned about my retail experience, people management experience and passion for pets. No trick questions or anything outside the scope I had prepared for.

I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Petco (Santa Rosa, CA) in Jul 2021
Interview
Filled out application online, then got a call the next day, and got hired on the spot. They didn't really ask any questions, just explained what the job entailed. I asked if they needed any information for background check, or references and they said no which should of been a red flag to how desperate they were.
I applied online. I interviewed at Petco (Los Angeles, CA) in Dec 2020
Interview
I met with the store manager for the interview. Prompt with interview time and gave the opportunity to explain my background and how I would be valuable to the position. Talked about the objectives that I would be managing and the daily tasks responsible for. The conversation was very transparent and I felt confident in knowing what to expect and how long the onboarding and training period would be.
