I applied online. I interviewed at Petco (Denver, CO) in Apr 2018
Interview
I received an email to schedule a telephone interview with a recruiter. I scheduled and on the day of the interview was prepared. I spoke with the recruiter for over 40 minutes and answered all of her questions professionally and as an experienced GM. I should have it be known that I was a former GM with Petco previously so I understand and know their structure and training and expectations. I ended with the recruiter and then waited for 2 weeks where I finally called her back only to find that the District Manager was "on vacation" and would review the interview notes when he returned. Another couple weeks and I just simply quit caring. Petco has a horrible reputation for taking FOREVER to hire management staff. After almost 3 months, I suddenly received an email saying "thanks but no thanks!" Ridiculous that they can't even commit to ending a hiring process for potentials by simply clicking an email and sending it within a week or two of the interview process.

It was a standard Recruiter interview and then standard situational interview with the territory general manager and the District general manager. They asked about different animals you were comfortable handling.
*disclaimer, was an internal promotion. 2 interviews. First with District Manager, second with market manager and head of HR for territory. Second interview felt very store specific. Was focused on conflict resolution amongst associates in the store.
