I was taken aback how disorganized the process was. It was clear that the managers involved had little to no experience in interviewing for a management role. Worse yet, there was no real clear indication to me that they had a clear idea of goal setting(where are we and where are we going) or were able to clearly reflect on the current state of the organization.
One of the most disappointing aspects of the entire process was the recruiter. Communication is key. It’s takes little to no effort to keep candidates informed of the process. Applicants don’t necessarily need to know they didn’t get the job but they do deserve a clear idea of next steps and timelines. Following the interview, I received a call two weeks later asking me to fill out a form(which I had already completed weeks before). I did so and never heard back...
My recommendation would be for the organization to provide the applicant a simple overview of the process via email(here’s what you should expect) and followup again verbally. Also, encourage staff to thank the applicant for their time.. your reputation will continue to suffer if you don’t tighten up your process.
