      Senior Industrial Organizational Psychologist Interview

      Jun 24, 2021
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Phenom in Jun 2021

      Interview

Applied and interviewed with a recruiter within a week - the recruiter was wonderful. She was very personable and made you excited about the culture. I moved onto an interview with the hiring manager a week and a half later. The hiring manager came off as very pretentious. He would ask a question, then pace back and forth in front of the camera in and out of the screen as I answered - it felt very impersonal and uncomfortable. As I would provide answers to his unstructured, seemingly unplanned questions, rather than clarifying or asking prodding questions, he would respond with why he disagrees or is skeptical about my approach. Each time it was clear we weren't on the same page and he was disagreeing with something completely different than what I was communicating. There was only one question about my previous experiences, the rest of the hour was spent picking my brain about new features of the tool, and asking what and how it would work - mind you, I have very little understanding of how the software works (i'm an IO psychologist, not a software engineer). I had very little opportunity to talk about what I bring to the table as a professional, time was spent brainstorming how to improve the Phenom software, and being told several times how "skeptical" he is. Overall - I came out of the interview planning on withdrawing my candidacy.

      Interview questions [3]

      Question 1

Explained a certain feature of the Phenom Software and asked in an ideal world, what features would it have to deliver a good client experience. Follow up questions included how would you imagine that working, how would you measure its efficacy, what else would it do, do I see any costs to rolling this out, etc.
      Answer question

      Question 2

Asked about my dissertation, what I studied and how I analyzed the data.
      Answer question

      Question 3

My experience with job analysis, validation studies, etc. Very broad open ended questions. No "tell me about a time". It was, "how comfortable are you with"...
