      Program Manager Interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 months. I interviewed at Phunware (Austin, TX) in Nov 2014

      Interview

I applied online for this position at the end of September 2014. Three weeks later I received a request to submit an additional document detailing my customer-facing experience. I submitted that online, and then three weeks after that, a program manager reached out to schedule a screening interview. The interview went well, and lasted about an hour. I was then invited for an on-site interview about another three weeks after the phone screen. I live about two hours away from Austin, so I drove to the interview at my own expense. For the on-site interview, I had three 30 min interviews, 2 interviews were with other employees at the company, and one was with with an executive. All the interviews were pretty standard, except for the one with the executive. He was being very abrasive, and asked me some pointed, borderline offensive questions. At the end of the interview, he said that he wanted to see how I responded to pressure, as if to mimic handling a difficult customer. I've never been interviewed like that, and it was very off-putting. Overall, I thought the interviews went well, but then a couple of weeks later I got an email that they hadn't made a hiring decision, but a big announcement was coming soon. A week later I saw that Phunware was acquiring another company. After that, things went south.I didn't hear anything else from the company for another couple of weeks. When I tried following up, I was told that things were very busy with the acquisition, and that they would let me know a decision in the coming weeks. That never happened. My other follow-ups were met with silence, and I never got an official rejection. I assume that the position was closed after the acquisition was announced. In the end, the whole process felt like it was a waste of time, particularly because the long periods between follow-ups made the process so long.
