I applied for the position through portal calling for nurses to respond to the COVID-19 crisis. I spoke to a friendly and professional HR recruiter. My concerns with the organization started when she discussed the hourly rate for PRN nurses. It was lower than I had earned in previous full-time positions and was far below what other companies pay PRN nurses and just a little over half what others were paying for crisis response. Nevertheless, I decided to move forward with the formal interview. A few days later I spoke to members of the management team via phone. They were friendly and professional. However, they did not seem to be looking for crisis nurses in particular and asked the standard interview questions you might expect in any nursing interview. My biggest problem was when I asked how their operations had been affected by the coronavirus situation and what kind of plans they had in place. I wasn't expecting anything super detailed, yet they were unable to provide any meaningful response. To summarize, they said operations had not really been affected and that the virus wasn't really bad here yet, something that is patently false and speaks to a lack of foresight and awareness of management. Instead, they emphasized the value of customer service...not a bad thing in and of itself, but in the context of my question seemed inappropriate. Given my experience with the interview, I accepted another offer shortly after finishing the call. The next day, HR contacted me stating they were moving on with other candidates.
