Some questions about your skills, but a good third of the interview were screening questions about your experience with racial inequality and how you handled this. The recruiter I spoke to not only asked about my experience with racial equity in one interview, but also in the interview thereafter. When I answered and then made it very clear I did not feel comfortable complaining about my current employer, the tone of the recruiter changed dramatically. I reached out after being rejected the following week in good faith and asked what I could improve. She never answered. I am 100% certain it was because I did not give an answer that fulfilled their obsession with race. I do not recommend anyone work here if that is how they run their business. Certainly the weirdest interview process I have ever dealt with. I answered not only awkwardly stating that certainly have there been things I have seen in my line of work that were not equitable, but that there was nothing I could do about this working in payroll. I also explained certain situations where we have had tense situations due to a person’s race and claims of discrimination and how important it was to keep a level head with impartiality in order to protect your company. That is HR’s main goal, of course. The change in tone after I said this was quite remarkable.
