      Director of Customer Support Interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at PowerSchool Group (Folsom, CA) in May 2017

      Interview

I went through the same preliminary screening others have described: screening call with HR followed by personality and aptitude test, then aptitude test again with HR recruiter remotely observing via Skype. After a phone screen with the hiring manager, I was invited for an in-person interview at the Folsom HQ. At Folsom I was greeted by the HR recruiter and given a tour of the facility, then spent a couple hours interviewing with the hiring manager and other stakeholders. These interviews seemed to go very well, and my final meeting was with the CEO. This is where things went off the rails. After waiting quite some time, I was led into his office and introduced. Though this meeting had been scheduled a week in advance, he seemed to have no idea who I was or why I was there. He had no copy of my resume and seemed confused as to what job I was interviewing for. Of course I brought extra copies of my resume, so I provided him one so we could get started. The questions he asked were not in line with the posted job description or the previous discussions with HR, the hiring manager or other stakeholders, but this was not the strangest part of the interview. The CEO was seated facing a window to the hallway, with my back to that window. After each question he asked, rather than make eye contact during my response, he would look intently over my shoulder out the window as if someone were waving their arms to get his attention. If not diverting his attention to something outside the window, he would check his phone and flip through his emails rather than look at me. I found this to be not only very distracting, but exceptionally rude. You hear stories about people like this, but never really know how you will react until you encounter one. I’m sorry to say I did not immediately end the interview and walk out. I stayed put and endured this boorish behavior, then dutifully sent my thank you emails immediately when I arrived home. Unsurprisingly, I never heard a word back from HR, the hiring manager, or the CEO. Based on my experience with the CEO and the many poor reviews from current employees, I count myself as very fortunate to not be working for this company.
