I applied in-person. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Princeton University (Princeton, NJ) in Oct 2013
Interview
The interview involved an informal meeting at a scientific conference and then some email correspondence before a formal (on-site) interview. The interview included meetings with all lab staff and the PI, a brief lab-meeting style presentation of my graduate work, and a tour of the facilities and campus.

Faculty -> Executive Director -> offer. All were taken on Zoom. There was nothing surprising. Talked about research directions, contributions to the center's mission, relocation plans, and so on. The interview with the executive director implied that my research aligned with the center and was approved by PI.
