      Senior UX Designer Interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Promethean World (Seattle, WA) in Aug 2020

      Interview

My experience interviewing with Promethean was both positive and negative. I was approached by a recruiter to apply on LinkedIn via their web site to be considered for a Senior UX Designer position. I submitted an application, then 1.5 weeks later they reach out to schedule an interview. I had a difficult time scheduling the interview because of a glitch with their online calendar. After sending several emails with no acknowledgment of the issue over 2 weeks, I wondered if the initial interview would even happen. Eventually the glitch was cleared and the interview was scheduled a full month after I was first contacted. The phone screening was short and easy with basic prepared questions from the recruiter, with no acknowledgment of the run-around. I asked questions about the team, and they provided ample information about what the company was working towards in relation to the design role. The second round invitation came within 24 hours. This would be an interview with another Senior Designer and Head of Shared Services, 30 minutes each, where I was asked to share two projects with the Designer. The two people I met with were knowledgable, prepared, and easy to talk to. This was the most positive part of the process. However, the call with the designer was not a portfolio review after all, but a technical interview with prepared (but good) questions on their end. They weren’t sure why I was told I had to present two projects. It was fine in the end, but it would have been nice if I knew to expect this. The third round invitation came the next day, which would be a 6 hour interview loop, scheduled for 1.5 weeks out. This would include a 30 min presentation of my portfolio, and 6 separate 1:1’s with different team members. I received a calendar invite, LinkedIn profiles, and a description of what to expect and how present my work. Unfortunately, this interview never happened. While I spent the next week developing a presentation and reversing its friends, two days before the scheduled interview I received a cancelation mail saying they had filled the role. When I asked if I could receive any feedback from the two people I interviewed with, I did not receive a response. It goes to show anything can happen in the interview process, and you really can’t count on anything. I wish it had been easier to schedule the phone screen, and that I had the correct information for the second interview, and that they had held out to consider me since I already has a third interview on the calendar.
