Had screening interview with hiring manager. I was asked very straight forward financial and problem solving/analytical questions. After the phone interview I was asked to come in for a in person interview where I would meet the team and asked to solve a problem in excel and then present at the end of the day to everyone I had met. I discussed comp and relocation with HR and everything seemed to be on track. Literally two days before HR cancelled the interview as they said they had hired someone internally. The week before the company announced to the public major downsizing happening so I wasn't shocked. What shocked me was that they gave such a abrupt notice after they already booked my flights, reserved my car and hotel. I had requested time off from my current job and purchased a ticket for my fiancé to come with me to consider uprooting and moving to their head offices in San Diego. When I called and emailed the person at HR back to explain the inconvenience I got no response. It seems that the company's executives hadn't communicated to HR and they were left in the dark scrambling. The HR person I had been originally been involved with was said to be "on vacation." In the end the company wasted both my time and money with no consideration.
