I was referred and got a call by HR late in the evening. The lady mentioned I'll have a technical discussion about my profile, projects and internship the next day. I joined the meeting and another HR started taking a test on ML topics. It was easy but had me perplexed. Upon telling her that I wasn't told about this she mentioned if I am shortlisted, I'll get a call by evening or they'll reschedule this round and she left meeting. So far so good. I informed HR who contacted me and she said I should have specifically asked if there will be a test as technical round can be anything. Weird. I didn't heard back for nearly 8-9 days. I wrote a mail enquiring about my candidacy and got a mail next day that sorry for delay, you are shortlisted for second round and a interview was scheduled. It was again specified that this round will be a discussion on my projects, internships and work. I waited in the interview meeting but no one joined. After sometime the HR came in and said that panel is unwell and we'll reschedule the round. Again, okay. So round 2 was set in for 2 days later. I joined the meet, interviewers seemed a little bit off, no video on, no introductions. Asked me to tell me about myself. I started. They picked up my ML internship from my introduction, I explained the data analysis work, feature engineering done and then about model as any ML project is 90% feature engineering, data analysis and 10% modeling after the analysis. Seemed more interested in the model, I explained them about it. Asked me about softmax regression, function, dropout regularisation, I explained all of these, didn't seem interested and kept on shooting new things. Asked me if I have experience working with LSTMs, CNN, RNN, which I didn't had. It seemed they did not even had my CV with them or if they had, they didn't even look at it. Then the other guy asked me about my python efficiency and asked to share the screen and give a test. Sort a list and give first ten largest numbers and talk about the time complexity of it, without using in-built function. I again told him I am from a non-CS branch, and have worked with python from Data Science perspective and libraries and I can try but I am not sure if I can do it. Still persisted that I do it. This thing could have been done with a simple .sort() function and then using slicing on the list, but I tried without inbuilt function and it was taking time. Stopped me and then started asking generic questions like tell me why you are a fit for the role and why Quantiphi. At this point I understood that they are not interested in hiring me or to even talk about my work and projects in ML. I answered and was asked to leave. It all seemed rushed and as if the panel was not interested in hiring process. All this happened in 12-15 minutes and the interview ended. As soon as the call ended, I recieved a mail stating I have been rejected. It again affirms my belief that they were not interested in hiring and were taking the interview just for the sake of it with a rejection mindset. Wasted a lot of my time preparing for the interview. I have been giving a lot of interviews recently and this one seemed a negative experience from the start.
