      Director, Media Relations Interview

      Sep 3, 2024
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Toronto, ON
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at RBC (Toronto, ON)

      Interview

      1) HR telephone screening call - asked basic "big picture" questions to assess alignment with what I'm looking for vs what they're looking for 2) After screening, a video call with hiring manager was arranged directly by hiring manager (Senior Director), which was friendly and covered key areas of responsibilities and comparing how my experience would fit 3) Hiring manager reached out herself again a week and a half later to "talk again about the role", so we scheduled another video interview. 4) I was stoked so I spent more time researching and preparing notes - and put on make-up for the video call. But instead of another interview, it was the hiring manager just wanting to tell me that they were going with an internal candidate etc. 5) Me, being confused and annoyed because if ever a meeting could've been an email or a quick, old-fashioned phone call - this was it. It's equivalent to asking me to COME IN for another conversation about the role, only to be told that I didn't get it. 6) Key takeaway: Rejections should be simple phone calls. Not pre-scheduled video calls that end up being super awkward and a major letdown that didn't require getting hopes up and preparation.
