Recruiter screen, then take-home coding assessment forked from CodeScreen. The exercise was to use a list of users from Github via API and build a list and detail pages with vanilla React 18 (Typescript). Fairly open-ended, use frameworks and libraries you feel comfortable with. Turn around time is 7 days, however the expected time in hours or effort is not communicated. Submitted the assessment with what I felt was pretty strong production quality code, routing with 404 & 500 error boundaries, mobile responsive using tailwindcss, and jest unit tests using @testing-library/react. Radio silence after that. Reached out to the recruiter to no avail.

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Real (New York, NY) in Aug 2023
Interview
After an initial call with a recruiter, I was given a take-home assignment on CodeScreen. The core assignment was easy; something a mid-level JS developer should be able to fly through on day-to-day coding. But the meat of the project was to develop an underlying framework that other developers could follow with routing, testing, build optimization, the whole works. While that's not challenging, it is a whole lot of work. That's why I was particularly upset when they passed on my candidacy with NO FEEDBACK. I contacted the recruiter pointing out that I met all the criteria on the outline, including all of the bonus points, and then some; asking if they could please provide some feedback on why they would not move forward with me. It's been 5 days since that contact, and I still have no response. Don't waste your time. Even if you got offered a job here, you shouldn't work for a company that values your time so little; I'm sure they wouldn't think twice to abuse your time without any thanks in the future.
