The application comes in two sections. The first includes basic info, a quick grammar test, an introduction to the style guidelines, and a captioning test. The video is only two minutes long, but it took me about an hour to caption. If you're advanced to the second half, you will have two more slightly longer, more difficult videos to caption.
Though the videos were short, it took a long time to make sure I properly captured every word and to sync them. The tests are timed, so you have to start them when you have enough time available in one sitting. Overall I spent about four hours on this. On the second half, they do not tell you what they are looking for until AFTER you submit the videos. Even then, some situations come up that were not fully covered by the style guide. The software was glitchy and froze during each of my last two videos. At one point, some of my content disappeared, and though I was still working on some of my syncing, I was forced to submit the video. In my rejection letter, they did not tell me why I didn't make it through. I thought I did a great job, so good luck to future applicants.
