1. I would like to start addressing the recruitment process in general. While I understand that the people involved have a busy schedule, just like me and everyone else in other companies, there were constant delays and chasing on my side to get feedback and to schedule the next steps. Not once I had a clear understanding of how many steps the process was made of, as the coordinators didn’t fully disclose this information or were simply adding new interviews to my process. I was flexible enough to do challenges and interviews during the Easter break, after German working hours and on Mayday, to accommodate all of their needs, while they acted they were doing a favour interviewing me. 2. The second element I would like to discuss is the lack of humanity and professionalism shown by some interviewers. Shadow interviewers didn’t even introduce themselves; lead interviewers like sounded unbothered and were clearly reading questions from a script. At my current company, interviewers are thought to have a conversation with the interviewees to make sure that the candidates don't feel under unnecessary pressure and most importantly to give the impression that we are all equals. The head of the department in particular had the rudest behaviour: he didn’t even let me introduce myself, jumped directly to asking robotic questions, clearly reading them from another screen as he didn’t even once tried to make eye contact with the main screen or the camera. He asked “what makes a good designer?” type of questions, one after the other. 3. HR management was by far the worst experience I’ve had with Revolut. They not only weren’t sharing any information about my grading score for the challenges but straight up misled me several times, by saying that the feedback was very positive, by setting my hopes and expectations high. I was clear with them about my current salary and what I was looking for from the start. One person, in particular, reassured me that I was doing great and that Revolut would top up the offer; this was until the very end of the recruitment process. Only at the last step he decided to disclose the information that my grading for the challenges was not on par for the Senior level. He could’ve shared this information well ahead and saved me and them some time. 4. The offer. This was simply ridiculous and embarrassing. Not only it’s less than what I currently earn, but it doesn’t even get close to what other companies have offered. And this, after setting my hopes and expectations high enough, as the “feedback has been very positive with everyone at Revolut”. HR has been withholding essential information and misleading me several times on the matter. In my career, I never felt so disrespected and hard done by from another company, they all said that Revolut is a design first company, but maybe it should value humanity, transparency and professionalism just as much.
