      Manager Interview

I applied online. The process took 6 months. I interviewed at Riot Games

      Interview

Not what I expected at all. It's a classic corporate interview disguised as a relaxed one. Be prepared to confront many problems with schedule, no one answering you or just ignoring you for months. Absolutely lack of ownership as there is no real hiring manager, only many people that casually work together. If you don't have gaming professional experience, don't even bother. Almost all the interview will be about why you're not fit because of that. Pretty boring. Very bad follow up (if any), they can let you linger for months without an answer, even when that answer is positive. Only apply to Riot if you're already on another place, have no rush or economic issues. Even you have the luck (emphasis in that, as they way they choose seems pretty random, besides the funny but fake concept of hiring the best). If it's your first and only choice, then be prepared to have quite a few complications. Don't put a hold in your life to get there. I was expecting a tricky but fair process conducted by great people. I received instead a particularly long process, poorly managed by not so great people. After all I read previously from Brandon Beck and Jabout Riot's "secret sauce" was the people, being treated so corporately was weird and tragicomic. The story: I was part of 2 different processes in different places. 1 Process took 4 months of interviews (about 1 each month), and then they brought me on site. Expenses. Make them pay you everything in advance, don't accept further refunds as you'll find yourself fighting over a month to get it Lack of ownership is probably the biggest issue along the processes, as it occurred many times (e.g. "it was their responsibility not mine; the hiring manager should have told you that; they didn't contacted you yet?” etc.). * Interviews. Phone call interviews were classic, relaxed Riot interviews, with the exception of HR (or Talent, how they like to call them) which was a typical HR interview. On site interview. It started with a few questions about the position that the hiring manager forgot to mention (e.g. different locations and long etc), About the onsite: I went to the office, have a 6 hours interview in a small closed room (with 45 minutes lunch outside) and left the building. Nobody will explain you much, even you'll receive questions about a position you didn't were aware of. After that, a month without an answer. I returned to my home thinking something I did not expect: "I hope they don't call me back". 2nd process. After the classic delay, they send me a request for an interview, I answered with my availability and no answer afterwards. They scheduled the interview without confirmation and previous notice. If you're available at that time, ok, if not, you'll most likely miss it. They won't say sorry for missing that. It seems the main issue is HR lack of commitment to the job, the candidates or who knows what... Bottom line, for a company that sort of make his hiring speech that they're all about people, this is most likely the worst Hiring process I've ever been in my life. No organization, no ownership of the process. No respect for the candidate, even mistreat. Ridiculous delays with no updates, and a long, long etc. The difference between expectations and reality is pretty big. Getting into must be really nice, the road to get it, not at all and makes you wonder if the first part is actually true, or it's just everyone to afraid to comment.

      Question 1

Keep in mind, there are all classic behavioral questions that you can read on any site. Just memorize the answers and you should be fine. They're not expecting real creativity, but exact answers. It's pretty similar to Amazon process, but instead of review the principles, memorize the Manifesto and Mission - Do you know the Manifesto? What part do you like the most? - Do you know the Riot Mission? Tell me about it. Don't paraphrase, they want to hear the exact words, not your explanation. - Why I shouldn't hire you? They'll explain you after why you shouldn't came to Riot - Tell me, in 10 minutes (no more than that) about yourself - Give me examples of leadership techniques. Leadership certifications - Tell me about a time you took risk examples of taking risk - Tell me how your resume and experience adapt to the current position - What are you going to teach me? - What is the one thing you have to see when you hire? ANSWER: Potential - Examples of KPI (5 at least) and support metrics, and adapted to Riot Support (analyze that in Riot site) - What games do you play? - Name me the best or 3 best games you played? The 3 worst games? - What you don't like in games? - Tell me about what you think should be Riot's next game - How do you delegate? What to delegate and what not to delegate? Analysis of Performance / Potential Diagram (google it, is simple). What to do with someone on each stage= lower performer and potential, mid and high. Fire that person, improvement plan, prepare for the next role.

      Interview

Overall , it was one of the most demotivating experience ever in my career. They did 7 rounds with me and everyone appreciated me moving to the next round , whole process was like 2 and half months and finally they ghosted me with an email that they are not moving forward. It was a torture going through so many rounds, everyone was knowledgeable and had great questions but in one round some in APAC region had no clue what he was asking me in the interview. They almost gave me a hope I would get selected and I was very well prepared but unfortunate that it was highly demotivating

Straightforward process, transparent interviewers, good communication. Met some really good people along the way. Questions are meant to understand who you are as a person. Too bad the situation didn't work out for me in the end. Would try to apply again in the future.

      Interview

The interview process is long and tedious. Questions are easy brainteasers and mini case studies similar to Google's. Lot's of questions about what you would do if you had the job. They seemed to not be interested in my previous and current experience and were more concerned with my ideas and solutions for their business without providing any data or information that would allow me to provide a more constructive answer or solution. They were looking for very specific answers for very vague questions. One of the interviewers (the longest tenured one) was dropping F-bombs during the interview. I felt like the interview was more of an opportunity for the tenured employees to pick people's brains with no intention of hiring so they can get relevant knowledge and perspective on a specific topic. The interview was an interesting experience if you want to practice your interviewing skill and test your self on how much you are skilled and knowledgeable. Recommendation for Riot hiring managers: Don’t be scared to hire someone who is experienced. It’s the best way for you to grow the business, as well as yourself. This place definitely seems complacent regarding the critical thinking of some people that interviewed me. Additional comments: Booking system is clunky and not functional (tech company should have this one figured out), agenda of the interviews were never followed, and job description is extremely vague.
