The process is supposed to follow the structure of: 1. HackerRank 2. Call with Engineering Manager 3. Whiteboarding call After the initial recruiter call, I was sent a front-end HackerRank challenge to complete. It was six multiple-choice questions and 2 coding exercises. Although the company uses Angular, they instead focus on testing your vanilla Javascript skills, for whatever reason. In any case, the HackerRank was easy enough and I completed it with time to spare. I later received a follow-up email stating that the role requirements had changed and that they needed to test my backend skills. So, another HackerRank. How fun! Although annoying, I was glad to learn that it was only one problem and that it should only take around 10 minutes. So, I crack open the HackerRank and discover it's a LeetCode backtracking/permutation problem. What this has to do at all with backend development is beyond me (other than the fact that I got to select Node as my programming language). I fiddled around trying to find a solution for a few minutes until my irritation about the situation caused me to end the test. Unsurprisingly, I did not advance in the process. Advice to RR: If you want to test someone's backend skills, give them a backend problem.
