I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at SEC in Sep 2015
Interview
Fill out an application through USA.gov. If they like what they see they will contact you for an interview. I was not in the country when they called me so we had a telephone interview, which is uncommon. I was told I was probably going to get the internship but I would hear an official offer within 10 days. Within that time frame I did hear back.
I received an email letting me know about a potential interview. I had the One interview and it took them about a month and a half to decide whether I was to receive a decision about the offer/program
The interview consisted of just one phone call, discussing what classes I took, what past experiences I had. Don't be afraid to reach out again if they do not get back to you - I reached out a week after I was supposed to get a decision, and immediately was called on the phone with the offer.

Question 1
General questions about classes and past experiences. If you have some demonstrated knowledge and interest in SEC's work that helps.
I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at SEC (Washington, DC) in Mar 2021
Interview
The interview was fairly relaxed. I was interviewed by one staff attorney and one higher up. They were friendly, kind, and easy to connect with. Gave a very good impression of the Commission.
